Cleanup Highlights
In June 1991, Congress formally ended Fernald’s production mission following the end of the Cold
War. Since
that time, Fernald’s mission has been the cleanup and restoration of the
1,050 acre site. Click on a year below to read about just a few of the events that have influenced the direction of cleanup
and have marked the path to final restoration and closure of Fernald.
