Fernald Public Environmental Information Center

Doe and Fluor Fernald meet regularly with citizens on Fernald cleanup plans and issues
Fernald Public Environmental Information Center (7880D-4).

The U.S. Department of Energy established the Public Environmental Information Center (PEIC) in 1990 to provide convenient public access to documents about Fernald cleanup activities.  The PEIC contains three sections:

Administrative Record: documentation of Fernald's 10-year Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study and Records of Decision (final cleanup plans).

Post Record of Decision Files: a collection of work plans, treatability studies, design packages, public comments and DOE's response to comments, and public notices.

Public Reading Room: newspaper clips, photos, videos and general information about Fernald and other DOE sites.

The PEIC also offers many services to patrons, including:
  • A copier at no charge
  • A computer station that provides access to the Internet
  • A VCR and monitor to view videos about Fernald.

Location and Hours
The PEIC is located near the Fernald site at 10995 Hamilton-Cleves Highway (Route 128), Harrison, Ohio 45030. Visitor and handicap parking is available.

The PEIC is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. by appointment only.
