The Advance Wastewater Treatment Facility (AWWT) was one component of the Aquifer Restoration and Wastewater Project at the Fernald site. The facility has since been reduced to a size that will meet the site's future groundwater restoration needs.
Link to Pilot Plant Pilot Plant
The Pilot Plant was used to convert uranium hexafluoride (UF6) to uranium tetrafluoride (UF4), called green salt, for use in the metal production process.
Link to Plant 2/3 iPIX Plants 2 and 3
Plants 2 and 3, the Ore Refinery Plants, were used to convert feed materials and recycled scrap to high purity uranium trioxide (UO3).
Link to Plant 5 interior Plant 5
Plant 5, the Metals Production Plant, was designed to blend UF4 with magnesium, which was heated in furnaces to produce uranium metal.
Link to Plant 6 Plant 6
Plant 6, the Metals Fabrication Plant, was designed to perform major uranium metal fabrication processes.
Link to Plant 8 iPIX Plant 8
Plant 8, the Scrap Recovery Plant, was used to convert scrap uranium recycled materials and metal bearing wastes from various Fernald plant operations.
Link to Silos 1 and 2 project Silos
The Silos Project remediation will required the removal of low-level radium-bearing waste from Silos 1 and 2, and cold metal oxide from Silo 3.
Link to Uranium Repackaging Uranium Repackaging Station
Fernald used three drum repackaging stations to make repackaging of certain types of nuclear product easier, more efficient and safer for workers.
