Ray Plieness
Raymond M. Plieness is the Director of the Office of Site Operations within the Office of Legacy Management, which oversees long-term surveillance and maintenance activities at the 70 existing LM sites. He is responsible for management of the Reuse and Environment Teams within the Office of Site Operations. The Reuse Team manages legacy land and assets, emphasizing protective real and personal property reuse and disposition. The Environment Team is responsible for protection of human health and the environment through effective and efficient long-term surveillance and maintenance. Mr. Plieness also oversees the LM site transition teams that work with entities transferring sites into LM. He has more than 25 years of experience in engineering and project management and has completed a variety of projects, including construction of a hospital, numerous environmental remediation projects, as well as water resource delivery and storage systems. Prior to the creation of LM, Mr. Plieness served as a project manager, team leader, and the Deputy Manager for DOE’s Grand Junction Office. His first assignment with LM was to serve as the LM site transition coordinator for the Rocky Flats, Colorado, Environmental Technology Site. He was also a key player in the development of DOE’s Long-Term Surveillance and Maintenance Program, which is now incorporated into LM.
