 Scout Night - Water Chemistry and Secret Spy Scavenger Hunt
Wednesday, December 13
6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

 Bring your scouts to this free program to learn about water chemistry and play part in a fun secret spy scavenger hunt. All are welcome to arrive as early as 5 p.m. to eat dinner, socialize, and check out the exhibit hall. Please bring your own food. No food will be provided. 
  •  Water Chemistry—45 minutes
    • We all need quality water. Scouts will learn about pH, nitrogen, and other elements found in nature and drinking water. Scouts will test natural sources of water and drinking water for pH and chemical content. They will evaluate how these measures impact the health of the environment, wildlife, and people.
  •  Scavenger Hunt—45 minutes
    • Secrets, spies, and classified material! The former Weldon Spring Uranium Feed Materials Plant operated during the Cold War, a time of secrets and covert operations. Scouts will step back in time as top secret agents in a race to decode clues and open a spy case before their adversary does. Clues will guide students through the exhibit hall to discover the site’s history, cleanup, and restoration of the natural environment.



 Christmas Bird Count

 Reservations: not necessary, show up anytime during the program

 Help Missouri birds! Be a citizen scientist! The Weldon Spring Site is hosting our third Christmas Bird Count. Help us collect data to be given to the National Audubon Society and used for future conservation efforts.

  • All ages welcome
  • Hike and search for birds
  • Learn to record and tally bird species observed
  • Learn birding basics
  • Bring your own binoculars and field guides or borrow ours
