Public Program - Seeds, Wonderful Seeds!
Saturday, March 3

Beginning their life as a seed, many types of unique and useful plants grow around us and enhance our lives. Explore different seed characteristics that contribute to the success of plants’ overall lifecycles.  Children will make seed balls to plant native plants a home and take a nature walk through the Howell Prairie. Allergy Notice: Tree nuts, wildflower seeds, and beans will be present at this program. Peanuts will not be used.

Scout Night – Science of Spring: Discovering Native Plants
Tuesday, April 24
4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Ages: 6–12 with parent/guardian

Explore the science of native plants and wildflowers. Discover unique plant characteristics and learn how Native Americans and early settlers used these plants for food, medicine and survival. We’ll hike through the prairie and garden to identify emerging and blooming native plants and wildflowers. Participants will make their very own Rattlesnake Master plant bracelet. This program will meet some requirements to complete the Junior Girl Scout Flowers and Gardener badges and also the Boy Scout Plant Science Merit Badge.

Scout Program – Art in Nature
Tuesday, May 22 
4:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Enjoy a day in nature and learn painting technique to improve your skills. Scouts will use the native prairie and garden as a subject matter. The session will follow requirements for art merit badges for boy scouts and girl scouts. Please bring a smock or shirt to protect clothing while painting. Tempera paints, brushes, pallets, and canvas boards will be provided.
